Here at Chrysaliss our puppies are raised in the home, doted on and loved from the very start. Take a tour and see how we started on our path in this world...
In their first weeks they are right beside my bed so I can tend to them as needed. This often means 2 hourly supervised feeds or bottle feeding, all day and all night, say goodbye to a good nights sleep for this time! Bull Terriers aren’t always the best mums, so we more often then not need to be on hand, how must assistence is needed varies litter to litter. Coffee is my best friend!
As they grow they upgraded to their own bedroom suite where they can tumble and play, stretching their legs. Learning what life is all about! This is when we really start to use our noses, we are also imprinting on everything, so we need to be exposed to a few things to prevent fear or anxiety. At Chrysaliss we adopt Puppy Culture methods to ensure we give our puppies the very best start to life! They are introduced to the idea of a potty area, we learn how to use this very quickly! We learn about crates, that they are cosy and a safe place. We start going to our crate to sleep. Mum says crate training is one of the most valuable skills we can have!
From 6 weeks onwards we start to venture outside to our day time play area with some new digs to nap in during the day. This area need to be hygienic and under shelter, protecting us whilst we have only just had our vaccinations but have adventurous tendencies and eager-to-learn minds. We have tools like a wobble board and bridge to learn balance and not to fear unexpected movements under foot and some nifty toys to play with, all increasing our confidence and shaping us to be ready for anything. By now we have met some friendly cats, and we start to meet some happy dogs! This is the time when we learn how to be social and fearless! We love to mingle and if we are a big litter, we are divided and rotated so we can be with like minded siblings (some of us are more energetic than others hehe) and not become naughty. This is when our breeder learns about us and our personalities individually so we can find homes that are a perfect fit!
We are now 8 weeks and ready to start finding homes. Our breeder will spend one on one time with us in our huge backyard and inside the house in different scenarios to really get to know how well we are learning and what areas we may need improving on. If we are well adapted and a happy little puppy with solid basic life skills then we get to meet our new parents. If we lack some skills we get even more one on one time to make sure we are set for success!
It’s time to go to our new homes! Yay! We are so eager to meet you! But you are new and we have never been to your home before. So we may have a small cry as we get used to being without our siblings, please understand this adventure is fun but also totally new. Please have a set up at home that is familiar to what we already know. This way I can continue to use the potty area and not regress in my training, that is upsetting for everyone! When I first come home please set up a small place for me, too much room is too overwhelming and if I get too far away from the potty I won’t see it or make it back in time, I have little legs and my eyes still can’t see very far. The setup bellow is perfect to get us off to a great start! It does not have to be a pen if your laundry or small bathroom is warm. As I get a bit older and used to my surroundings I can leave my pen and as long as my potty doesn’t move I will remember where to go. Our breeder recommends our pen and toilet area is near the door you will want us to go to when we need to go out to the toilet. As when the pen is removed and we continue to return to our potty area beside the door, you will see us and take us outside, eventually meaning we won’t need the potty tray, we will just go to the door! How neat is that!
